Lizard

     ... versatile, resilient, camouflaged

I want to be the lizard,
Lazing on hot rocks in the sun.
Every corner of the world,
Lizards live and run.

I want to be a lizard,
To even movement I would react.
Attack or scurry and hide,
In the nearest dark rock crack.

I want to be a lizard,
Able to shed my tail.
Representing rebirth and survival,
Able to live another day.

I want to be a lizard,
A versatile master of trickery.
Camouflaged against the ground,
I can see you, but you can't see me.

I want to be a lizard,
But I don't know what that means,
Symbolically.
Do I have secrets to hide,
Or do I just want the sun,
To warm my heart,
And feel free.

Nor does the lizard.

About this Poem...

Animal: Lizard
Description/motivation: Dedicated to Katerina the adventurer from South America. Not the best choice of spirit animal, but I tried my best. :)

This is one in a serious of poems I've written about various animals. The motivation, is that I love the idea of spirit animals, and I decided, one day, to ask many of my friend what animal they think best represents their personality. In some cases the poems are written with the person in mind... and sometimes it's purely about the animal. Read more about my process here. If you love this poem or want another written please e-mail me at andrew.noskeATSIGNgmail.com. :-)
This is an original poem by me!
