Sloth

     ... idle, carefree, prehistoric

Moss grows,
A sloth is slower.

Glaciers' flow,
A sloth is slower.

The moon rises,
The sloth is slower.
The river dries,
The sloth moves even slower.

Look into the trees,
The sloth is there.
You send a smile or not,
The sloth doesn't care.

Prehistoric carefree creature,
Life is no rush for the zen teacher.
The sloth can be my idol,
I just need to sit still.

The moon is still rising.
The river is still flowing.
Don't ever move too fast,
The sloth is all-knowing.

About this Poem...

Animal: Sloth
Description/motivation: Wrote this on a plane to New York for Jared and Alex. Kind of a stupid poem, but you might enjoy also reading "Sloth – Spirit Animal, Totem, Symbolism and Meaning".

This is one in a serious of poems I've written about various animals. The motivation, is that I love the idea of spirit animals, and I decided, one day, to ask many of my friend what animal they think best represents their personality. In some cases the poems are written with the person in mind... and sometimes it's purely about the animal. Read more about my process here. This is an original poem by me!
