Dove

     ... peaceful, loving, pure

Everywhere around the world,
people recognize the dove.
As universal symbol of hope,
purity and love.

This poem is a story,
of a dove white as snow.
Who can melt any heart with her soft blue eyes,
as she emits her warm glow.

Beneath her soft white feathers,
beats a pure and kind heart.
Like stories of an adored princesses,
like a timeless work of art.

The most gentle and giving creature on the planet,
attracts creatures far and wide.
They all long to be close to your innocent charm,
and to lean on your side.

She wants to help others,
she comes from an earlier age.
But in her submissive kindness she becomes vulnerable,
to those that would see her caged.

My instinct is to protect you,
and to show your white feathers bright shades of colors.
Some see a delicate little bird,
I see power like none other.

I wish to be the earth that keeps warms,
the sun that ignites the moon.
To let you fly free over the lands,
yet embrace you with new passion and fire.

To challenge the white dove,
to be more than a mere symbol.
To think beyond just the meadows,
to the mountains above.

To learn when to surrender,
and let the wind lift your wing.
To take a chance on an romantic owl,
and see what loves brings.

Everywhere around the world,
people recognize dove’s glow.
Some recognize it as love,
to me her eyes feel like I’m finally home.

About this Poem...

Animal: Dove
Description/motivation: This poem was inspired by an incredible girl called Volha. I met her just before my birthday and, well, I was mesmerized by the way she seemed to glide when she danced. The grace of a swan, and filled with a wonderful innocent and purity which is very rare these days. She had that type of incredible energy few people have, and some people don't even recognize, but now that I've trained myself to see it, I feel instantly connected with such people. Even among these people Volha is rare, I can tell by her eye contact and her smile. Truly pure and innocent. It feels strange to say this, but whatever happens, I have met a kindred spirit on that day. A girl from a different age. I asked her what her spirit animal was and I knew immediately that a dove could not possibly have been a better choice. The meaning and symbolism of dove fits her so perfectly. Pure and wonderful. Someone you want in your life. :)

PS: I actually wrote this on my birthday. It's nice to be creative on ones birthday.

This is one in a serious of poems I've written about various animals. The motivation, is that I love the idea of spirit animals, and I decided, one day, to ask many of my friend what animal they think best represents their personality. In some cases the poems are written with the person in mind... and sometimes it's purely about the animal. Read more about my process here. This is an original poem by me!
