Animal poems - Snake
Snake
... shy, intelligent, patient, reticent
Spring loaded,
Killing strike.
Cold blooded,
Like a hunter's knife.
Low slither,
Like smooth stealth,
Glistening scales,
Blood buys this wealth.
Fang pierce,
Blood drips.
Poison arrows,
Beneath thin lips.
With forked tongue,
You can hiss.
Kill your victims,
With a venom kiss.
These are the lucky,
To run many steps away.
Follow the heat trail to their death.
Poison pumps to the heart.
You make evil an art.
Others you wrap around,
And squeeze out the life,
Gasping for air,
Bones crack.
Gasping.
Desperate.
Drowning,
Desperate.
Eyes clutching the last rays of light.
Your vicious mouth then consumes all of them,
The husk of a once vibrate creature.
You dissolves their essence,
Until nothing remains.
Needle teeth,
Remorseless killer.
Blood stained lips,
Each move like a thriller.
If you were an element,
You'd be sex beneath fire.
A killer assassin,
Freelance for hire.
Avoid at all costs,
Don't make the mistake.
Of trusting anyone you love,
Near the lips of a snake.

About this Poem... This is one in a serious of poems I've written about various animals. The motivation, is that I love the idea of spirit animals, and I decided, one day, to ask many of my friend what animal they think best represents their personality. In some cases the poems are written with the person in mind... and sometimes it's purely about the animal. Read more about my process here.
