About This Page

Using a spreadsheet gets pretty important
NOTE: This page is a daughter page of: Renting
Just trying to keep track of various tools that you might use to find rental accomodation in San Francisco, but most of these sites will work for other locations too.
The Best Ones
- Zillow > Rentals - easy to use.
- PadMapper - nice Google Maps UI.
- sfbay.craigslist rooms = Lots of people find their new place this way.
Subscription Based
- Roomster Profile - Little too much work o setup.
- Outsite - Shared professional furnished space, sadly needs membership fee.
Furnished Apartments in San Francisco
Furnished places are harder to find.
- TheBlueground - Pricey but nice chain of places.
- Sonder - Medium term stays, but nice.
Other
- WalkScore.com - I feel like most people know about this service, and it's even build it to certain rental sites. It's a good way to see how close you would be to shops and other facilities.
- Spothero Monthly - For parking your car.
- Trulia Crime Map - Crime map.
- Crimemapping.com - Another crime map.. just search "SF" for "prev 3 days".
- poopmap - What it sounds like.
SF Renting Facebook Groups
- Bay Area Rooms and Apartments (facebook group) - A mix of people renting and seeking.
- Bay Area Conscious Community Housing Board (facebook group) - If you're a hippie. ❤️
- San Francisco House & Apartment Rentals - ~50k members.
- Bay Area Recent Grads Housing (facebook group - Yet another one.
Hotels
- kayak.com ... and then so many more.
Personal
- My Apartment Hunting Sreadsheet - A great idea for searching.
Google Internal
You can only access these if you work at Google. I worked at Google at the time, so this info is useful. Then I got laid off a few months later in Jan 2023. Ouch!
- Google "housing-sfo@" group - Often Googlers subletting but sometimes posting on behalf of others.
- TripShot - It's important to know where bus stops are (it may change).
