About
NOTE: This page is a daughter page of: Google Maps
Before you travel overseas, I say always, always download your destination offline on your phone via "offline mode"! :)
Anywhere that cell reception is limited and/or tricky to obtain on your phone, an offline map ensures you still can see where you are to a street level and navigate between destinations (albeit without the live traffic feature).
Google Maps Offline - Download a Map
Offline maps exist for Google Maps on both iPhone and Android.... there are two methods:
Download a place:
- Open the Google Maps app Maps (on your Android or iPhone).
- Make sure you're connected to the internet and signed in to Google Maps.
- Search for a place, like "Puerto Vallarta" (Mexico).
- At the bottom, tap the name or address of the place and then "Download". If you searched for a place like a restaurant, tap More > More and then Download offline map and then Download.
Download an area: (recommended)
- Open the Google Maps app Maps (on your Android or iPhone).
- Click your profile picture at the top right (on the search bar).
- Click "Offline Maps" > "Select your Own Map"... and notice you can pan/zoom around and it shows you how many MB it will take up > Brilliant! :)
