Showcase Tourism and travel web sites have been our stock-in-trade since PDIS first started 5 years ago. This is partly due to our location, partly due to our previous experience in the tourism industry, and partly because travel was one of the first industry sectors to embrace the internet. In its broadest sense, quality destination information and regional guides have presented the greatest challenge to the industry, and due to the volume of information involved in web sites of this nature, we have met and overcome the challenge of building large, informative and well structured travel information web sites covering entire countries, states, regions, sub-regions and individual destinations.
At a regional level, individual tour operators have approached bringing their product to the internet in a variety of ways, all taking advantage of the unique opportunity presented to cheaply and efficiently present greater volumes of sales information to the consumer than was ever possible before. Whether the motivation has been cost savings through reduced brochure distribution costs, a need to project into international markets without the burden of excessive commission payments, or embarking on a program of expansion and product re-focusing, the following web sites stand out amongst our portfolio:
Also at a regional level, tourism organisations have identified the internet as an effective and relatively inexpensive way to represent their region and the interests of their members in the international marketplace. Primarily operating on limited and fixed annual budgets, the cost of distributing promotional material has always been a significant expense for them. The internet drastically reduces those costs while increasing the opportunities for making direct sales and bookings to visitors on behalf of their members.
On the accommodation side of things, we have developed web sites for resort groups, accommodation specialists, and for individual properties. The following web sites represent what we believe is a successful deployment of technology by companies willing to tackle the challenges of the internet and international consumers.
The internet is also the vehicle by which many smaller operators have achieved marketing independence and a direct control over the promotion of their product internationally. The following sites are a mix of 'first-timers' that are either brand new products that released on the internet first, or individuals who used the internet for their first foray into the global market.
Associated and ancillary services in the tourism and travel industry have also benefited greatly from the growth of the internet. Although travel agents might not be categorised normally as niche operators, several of our clients have been able to narrow the focus of their business model and home in on the services that they provide best. Service companies with a traditionally narrow focus or product range have also seen the huge expansion in their online potential market, as the internet literate holiday or business traveller seeks out the web sites for these specialist providers.
Specialist companies using the internet to broaden their horizons and attract new customers are not just restricted to the travel industry. In fact, anyone with a good product, a penchant for customer service, and the flexibility to adapt to new markets and new trading opportunities will find the internet to be a stimulating and rewarding challenge. The following clients have pursued e-commerce with a vigour, and are seeing the benefits of the internet and email to foster direct relationships with customers they have never even met, in places they had never even identified as potential markets as little as 6 months ago.
Getting a fair and manageable slice of the market is the reasonable expectation of most businesses, but then there is the desire for strong market share to the point of being a major player, and an e-commerce business model that tackles all comers in the aggressive pursuit to outgun and outmanouver competitors. The following sites are class leaders in their commercial environments, and have returned a financial benefit that has far outstripped the initial cost of the web site.
To round things off, here a few others that should be highlighted as uniquely successful web sites in their own right. Each represents the efforts of an individual to present themselves to the world, and each is testament to the fact that the internet is where the customers of tomorrow are migrating to today, and where every business should be positioning itself to take advantage of one of the greatest opportunities ever.
