UQ dance picnic at southbank "picnic island" October 2005:

  • 29/10 | Micheal's birthday
Micheals birthday! I got him an Asterix comic for his birthday, and afterwards we all went out clubbing. The club we went to I didn't like too much (bit dingy), but the music was surprisingly good! CX and I were dancing straight away, and Anton and Micheal followed. At that stage there weren't too many people and it was good.... but eventually it got too crowded to dance on the dance floor. So we thought: stuff this, we'll just dance near the bar where there is room... and it was fun! Anton can do the robot, and so the two of us kept facing off. :-P Hehehe... but the best part was when some of the postgrads (including a *certain* doctor I know) and postdocs who I NEVER expected to see dancing, finally had enough alcohol that we all formed a big circle and started grooving. I really enjoyed that night - and even the train ride home where I talked to two older couples who had also spent the night partying, and possibly had just as much fun as we did.

  • 28/10 | Luke's going away party
Luke's going away party! Was lots of fun - a bit of drama, but met some more nice people and a guy called Nick who was at JCU with us for our first year before he decided he was better than us and went to Griffith of all places to do Multimedia. Pffft... Griffith. He's done pretty well for himself acutally - and he drove me home, but the coolest thing is that I had him pinned as the Brisbane equivalent of Aidan. Now Aidan, as we all know, rocks! Well Nick was the city version of Aidan. He's into computer like Aidan (geek!), but has lots of female friends and had this strange invisiblity power with women! While I was with Nick we went into a girls bedroom to look at a photo album, and there were a three of them talking about girlie stuff. Nick just told me: "we're invisible", and not to talk. And it's true - we were there, and yet they were saying all that girlie stuff they must talk about when there are no guys around. I guess everyone was a bit tispy, which helped; but it was still cool! Girls are crazy! Man - I thought guys were crazy. :-P

I also met a really nice girl called Kate that night. Luke knows lots of attractive girls, but hey - they're all journalists - you know the types - besides, I've kind of turned off girls for a while. Too much to worry about or something, but I was pleasantly surprised when I talked to a girl called Kate - she was really intelligent and interesting. I'm not going to say anything crazy like "we clicked" - she was just good to talk to.... but unfortunately one of Lukes friends - a much older guy kind of barged in. He obviously had a lot more experience talking to girls, and showing off, so eventually I just got out of there and talked to Nick. Luke later told me she likes/dates nerds I thought: just my luck... oh well.... another year of being alone - I'll live. Besides - she lived too far up North. I was told Luke moved to into the heart of Brisbane city because he thought he'd find more girls. Maybe he's moving to Sydney now because he thinks he'll meet more girls there! :-P Nah - only kidding - he's landed a good job in Sydney.

But it's kind of interesting that I had hoped I'd meet more girl here, and yes, I definitely have, but I've only really ever been keenly interested in one or two - and in Brisbane you have WAYY more competition floating about. Guys that have dated more girls in one month than you are likely to date in your whole life. Guys after different things than you, but will probably win over you every time, just because to them, it really doesn't mean as much, and they're not too shy to take chances. Alcohol probably helps too. Anyhow, I can't believe I'm talking about this topic again.... think I came to it by accident.

  • 22/10 | Choir performance
This night was really good - I went to watch CX and Micheal put on a choir performance at St Andrew's church. They did scenes from Gilbert and Sutherland, which was fantastic! I felt very cultured.

  • 16/10 | UPDATE: new web-hosting and new URL (http://www.andrewnoske.com/)!! {WARNING: This entry contains nerd-talk}. Ever feel like you are bad at making decisions? I get that a lot! What's worst of all though is when you get to the stage where you have a few decisions to make, and you just can't make any of them! You get stuck in a rut I guess.
The webserver which hosted this site up until now - "krimzon" - is a old computer belonging to a friend of mine. The problem was the webserver was always going down, so this site was often unavailable, and so decided I wanted more reliable web hosting. Sorry Aidan; don't get me wrong - krimzon rocks!!! Unfortunately Aidan won't stay at home forever (well we hope not!!) - one day he will fly the coop and where will I be then?! Krimzon will eventually did or move and we'll all be screwed! So I decided I needed to find web hosting somewhere - and BOY did it take me a long time to decide! Eventually I settled on a site MD webhosting, because they offer plenty of space, *seem to be fairly fast, and have a great interface and tutorial movies. 1.5 GB and all the features I wanted is $115 per year, which is pretty resonable.
As well as new webhosting I wanted a URL to call my very own. What I REALLY wanted was to own www.noske.com, but unfortunately a web reseller "surname reseller" company already owns it... and my god... they wanted FIVE THOUSAND U.S. DOLLARS for it!!! $5000... for a domain name!!!! Bastards. Instead Alby convinced me that www.andrewnoske.com would be a good idea - it's long, but people who remember/know my whole name won't forget it! Alby already owns www.albertyang.com (he registered it last year because he was afraid another Albert Yang might take it!).... and in fact I'm sharing my webhosting with him. Alby is going for a holiday to the U.S. and Canada soon (lucky bastard!) and wanted a blog site, which was very easy to set up with out hosting site through a "C panel" interface.
So yeah, I'm not the proud owner owner of www.andrewnoske.com!!! WohooO!!! The great thing about having this domain name is I can keep it for life (a domain like this only cost $15 per year), even if I change hosting (although hopefully I won't need to). So it really is worth it. I only wish I had used/bought my own URL when I first made this website in Feburary. And why?! Well; the way google works is that the more links to your site you have, the better it's page-rank. The better the page rank, the more people who visit. My The page rank for my old site was up to 4 - which is pretty high (9 is the best) - but now I've changed it's back down to zero. :-( So if you could make a link to this site I'd appreciate it!!

  • 11/10 | Website back up.
This website has been down for almost two weeks now.. which was a bit of a pain, but life went on. Krimzon was hacked by mexicans! Damn mexicans! Apparently Aidan managed to work out their IP address, but that didn't stop them taking down the server. I'm still working on that download tool piece of software I talked about before. It's taking over my life!!! Argghh. Finish it already! Oh well, at least it will look good on my resume right? Mum has reminded that a PhD would look better. I hope it becomes popular when I release it... would suck if no-one used it! Luckily I have a plan. Hell, maybe one day I can make money from it too. I wish. I could make... gosh!... tens of dollar!
I still haven't finished testing this site (I've made some modifications to code), but using text files was probably a good idea, because I didn't lose TOO much of my guestbook when krimzon was hacked. Unfortunately I did lose a few. Doh! Damn mexicans!

  • 9/10 | First time drunk
I got wasted last night! First time in my life I've been drunk... not tipsy, but DRUNK. And BOY was I drunk. Some funny stories there, but for now I'm trying to recover enough brain cells and common sense to get myself back on track.... more about that later I guess.... on second thoughts, maybe it's best left for my next group letter. You know you have good friends when they carry you down the stairs and leave you hangover instructions. I think my lowest point was crawling through the kitchen and talking to a potato. ;-)
