30/01 | Christmas
Holiday
Well I'm back from Cairns. I had such a great Christmas break - especially
Christmas itself.
I bought myself a new digital camera, and mum got me an IPOD!! Sweet!
We've started a tradition of spending Christmas with our old family friends
from Darwin - the "Parry's" and the "Arthursons". They're
all wonderful people, and live not too far from us in Cairns now, and I couldn't
think of a better place to be at Christmas than with the Parry's. Sue is such
a great cook! It's a shame it's so hot this time of year, but we had access
to the neighbours swimming pool after we finished the party games and delicious
food.
I had a chance to catch up with Emmy and Amber, which was great - and also
got to hold Emmy's cute little son Eamon. He's so adorable - he's like this
tiny litter person (who would have thought) - and I like the way he grabbed
my thumb with his tiny little hands. Anyhow, no more baby stuff! This is a
serious website. :-P
Also caught up with some old high-school friends ... not much has changed
in Cairns really, except for more development. Was good to see some of them
though - saw some people I haven't seen in ages. I can't believe Glen G. is
getting married!
I had two weeks so I went swimming a lot next door (our neighbours are a golf-course)
and I finally finished reading my book "Men are from Mars, Women
are from Venus". Hooray! Great book, although yes, a tiny bit outdated
and repetitive - and not really relevant to me until I actually GET a girlfriend!
Probably should have read a book on finding a girlfriend instead me thinks.
Never-the-less I would recommend the book to anyone in a relationship, struggling
with the fact that it isn't always roses. Relationships go through waves -
it's impossible for people to always stay on a high - people go up and down
- it's just how we work, and I guess, without the downs we wouldn't really
appreciate the ups as much would we?
I also had the genius plan of getting a sun-tan in Cairns, but was foiled
when mum & her friend decided to go on an epic adventure: to swim around
the very wide Lake Eachem on pool noodles. I tagged along on a lie-low to
make sure neither drowned, but hours later, when we finally got back, I realized
that my sunscreen hadn't prevented me from getting extremely sun burnt. Doh!
No more sun for me for at least a month. My skin hurt for the next week and
I had to read in my air conditioned room instead of outside.
30/01 | Brissy
Formatting
When I got back to Brissy I realized just how hot Brisbane had been. :-P
Sweltering hot! I had heard on the news, but hadn't really appreciated that,
for a change Brisbane had been hotter than Cairns, and I probably chose a
good time to visit! After two weeks with air-conditioning I found it hard
to sleep again too.
The big job I had ahead of me was formatting my computer. In theory you can
do this in a day, but with all the software I use, it took me more like two
weeks. I was also organizing all my files, cd and music collection. And MAN,
you can spend a LOT of time organizing music! Took me almost a day to just
decided that alphabetical was the way to go, and then rearrange my cd's ....
and probably two days to get the music on my computer organized. Oh well ...
it's done now. An organized hard-drive means an organized person right?
I think my supervisor Brad is a bit peeved at me for taking a couple of weeks
off work playing with my home computer, but I think it's time well spent.
That's what I like to tell myself anyway. :-)
