22/11 | UPDATE: Added really awesome Word and PowerPoint Macros - I highly recommend looking at them - especially if you have never heard of Macros - they can save you heaps of time. (student > downloads)

03/11 | Third world

Hey all,

I haven't written anything substantial in my "journal" for many days. Hey ... but don't think it's because I'm bored of this site ... I still like this site ... I'm just bored with the people who VISIT the site. :-P

A couple of my friends commented that it looks bad that I don't update this thing regularly - and that I stopped writing stuff immediately getting a girlfriend (what's with that)! BUT GEEessh ... cut me some slack! I still go out with friends and do all the regular stuff ... I'm not one of those people who just suddenly disappears ! I'm still independent ... Debbie takes me outside and puts me off the leash for an hour EVERY week - I have HEAPS of freedom! :-)

Actually, Debbie has just gone to Cambodia!!! She left on the first of november and she's gone for 7 weeks - starting at Bangkok, then Cambodia and then Laos. Crazy hey! First year med students have the option of getting some hands on experience in either a first or third-world country, and Debbie decided she actually wanted to make a difference so she chose Cambodia. She's amazing, and I'm really proud of her. Debbie explained that one of the differences between first and third-world is that they really need nurses in countries like Cambodia so she'll actually get to do the real stuff - whereas in first world contrives everyone is afraid of getting sued, so they just tell med students to watch or brew coffee.

She's never traveled to Asia before, so I think it might be a bit of a shock for her to spend almost two months there, but she can probably handle it, and one of her friends will visit her for a while too. I told her to take lots of toilet paper. I'll miss her, but now I have no more excuse not to write a new journal entry!

My weeks have felt pretty busy lately, and there is always seems to be a party or something on every Friday/Saturday night and that leaves me pretty tired over the weekend. The UQdance breakup party (which I REALLY enjoyed) was two weeks ago, so now that means my Wednesdays are free. I might take a short break from dancing I think, but then start going to lessons taught by a guy called Shaun. I need the exercise, and I need to keep up with my dance friends who are suddenly learning all these awesome new moves.

In other news I'll be going on a cruise in February !!!! Wow! My housemates Nikki, Alby and Big Jon all wanted to go on a cruise and needed a forth, so I figured this might be something I only get to do once in my life ... so why not! The boat trip is 24th Feburary for 7 days from Brisbane to New Caledonia, Loyalty Islands and Vanuatu (here). But the best part is the price. We'll be sailing on the "Pacific Star" - the boat on which a woman was killed a while ago (has been on the news a bit recently) - and as part of a special deal the tickets are almost half price at $759 !!! How cool is that! Some hotels are >$100 a night, but this trip is fully inclusive (although I think I'll pay an extra $70 for insurance) - as much food and entertainment as you can eat. Return flights to Vanuatu can by >$800, so I'm really looking forward to it. I hope I enjoy it! I know the room won't be very big, and there is always a chance of rough sea (which would be awful), but hopefully it will be plain sailing and lots of relaxation. Hell - I might even come back with a tan! And THAT would be something. But hey - I'm getting ahead of myself - it's still a long way off. For now I need to catch up on sleep. Have a good November.

06/11 | Cutting it in Cambodia

Debbie is enjoying well in Cambodia, and the surgical team / hospital she's at even has a website - I'll put the URL here so I don't forget: http://www.rosecharities.net/first-rose.htm .

No it's not me - it's a guy called David - and doesn't he look sexy!
