Another month gone... can you believe it?! With March gone we're already more than one quarter through the year.... and yet it feels like nothing. I still write down 2006 as the current year on forms. I was suppose suppose to have 15 scientific publications and 2 photos on the font cover of Nature by now! I'm 24! How crazy it that?! Makes me sound really old. My birthday was on the 18th of March. I didn't do anything very special for it - but the two nights before I partied pretty hard at a St Patrick's day Med Keg and the night after less hard at a friend's birthday barbeque and a house-warming for Troy and Rehan. Rehan is a really cool chick at the IMB who helps put out the SIMBA newsletter which I like to publish articles in. Rehans is AWESOME... *although* I guess she would be MORE awesome if she proof-read my articles... I make SOO many spelling mistakes in them.
Anyhow, in our research group of 6 people at uni FOUR of us all have birthdays in march within a two week period - and my girlfriend's birthday is the week before mine - which is pretty crazy. What else has been going on. I can't remember EVERYTHING - I'm an old man now. UQdance is doing okay..... but that's old hat now.... and I don't feel like talking about the theft we've had there recently - very disheartening. I can't talk about our dance club ALL the time you know. Sometimes I'll talk about outer stuff... like the time I found a dollar coin in my wallet and thought: "that's really cool"..... fancy finding money in a wallet... what a convoluted world.
Oh* something even MORE exciting! My friend Mariah and another friend who we'll just call "Nadim C" (to protect his identity) hooked up. They look so cute together! I can't believe how LONG it took me to figure out though. I think everyone else knew months ago...... and people dropped little hints, but I just glossed over it. And then there was the time Mariah had a display picture of her and "Nadim C" in MSN, and all the times they danced REALLY close and I STILL didn't click.
Sadly Mariah is leaving to Switzerland soon. :-(
09/04 | Mt Coolum
Debbie and I climbed Mt Coolum on easter Sunday. It's a really great little mountain actually.... the climb is quite steep up soft granite. According to Paul the mountain formed through the same processes that formed Ayres Rock - hot magma seeping to the surface and forming a gigantic blob (as opposed to a volcanic explosion). The only disappointing thing is that it only takes 20 minutes to climb up. Oh well.. it was still fun. Sadly the beach was too windy and cold for swimming. I have a nasty feeling Winter is coming. Doh!
Oh, the other fun thing I did recently was a charity boat cruise. Debbie has a med friend called Sol who organized a terrific little 3 hour cruise aboard "The Island". Was pretty fun, lots of dancing. I took Big Jon and Nikki along.
