10/01 | Happy New Year !!
Well I haven't written a Christmas letter this year, and probably won't but hey - that good news for you!
The good news for me is my paper has FINALLY been published... YAY! Finally the world shall know about whole cell electron tomography. There is a hyperlink to the paper above, because I know you're all just dying to read it. I'll kill the first person who finds a spelling mistake. :-)
The new year in Brisbane started with rain. Which is pretty good actually - we are finally getting water in our damns, and if it continues long enough they might lift these annoying level six water restrictions.
One day I dream of a Brisbane in which I will once again be able to wash my car and have random water fights with my housemates in the kitchen. Actually I put my car in for it's first service since I got it one-and-a-half years ago. Cost me ~$700, but that's pretty good, because it needed quite a bit of fixing. I didn't know where to go, but my coworker Peter recommended Ultra-tune at Indooroopilly and the guys there were really quite friendly and helpful, and consulted me on what they'd recommend on fixing (for instance my break and battery) and what could wait.... and even gave me a small discount when I mentioned I was a student and searching for the best price. Anyhow, that's all pretty boring.
I'm actually going camping with Debbie this coming weekend. I've been looking forward to it, but we're both worried about the weather now. Unfortunately it's about the only time Debbie could get a few days off work, and she booked the camping grounds and hotel for the last nights fortnights in advance, so it's definitely going ahead - rain, hail or shine. Can you believe that though - you have to book everything in Brisbane... back in the NT you could just camp anywhere.... those were the good old days.
I haven't been camping for ages, and so I was enthusiastic to write an entry in my wikipedia site which I call "camping trip". Me so creative. Anyway I'm about to leave soon, so I'll wrap this up. Have a great new year all you happy campers.
27/01 | Camping Trip
Wow, I left if so late to update this thing. I haven't even uploaded my entry from December yet... I'll have to upload it today. *sigh*
Camping was fun. It did rain a fair bit, but luckily most of the rain fell when we were already in the tent. Our first day we camped at "scrub road" which is half-way up towards Mt Glorious. It was a bit hard to find the entrance - but thanks to Gavin (our transsexual gps) we eventually found the overgrown entrance. From there it was a 4 k walk to the campsite where there was a small storm shelter... luckily we got there *just* before dark. The main reason we were so late was a windshield wiper plain fell off when we were half-way there. Debbie wisely decided to the safe thing, so we drove back to Brisbane find an auto-mechanic and mechanic before the wiper was replaced. Phew. These things you just can't anticipate. At least the campsite was nice - but unfortunately it was too damp for me to start a fire.
The next day, our second campsite we unfortunately couldn't reach because one of the creek crossings had flooded over... instead we camped at a nice little caravan park which had it's own lakes and more frogs than you could point a frog at. At the next two nights spent at the "La Promenade" hotel in Colondra - which was really nice. There is so much to do there - we went to a winery, a cheezery a mazery and a zooery. Australia Zoo was quite good actually - very well laid out, and even though it rained a little it was still lots of fun.
